SECRET SOLSTICE : ICELANDIC MUSIC FESTIVAL
For this brief we had to rebrand an existing festival. Working in a pair my partner and I decided to rebrand Secret Solstice festival in Iceland. The festival is held in June and at this time of year there is 24hr sunlight which is an idea we found really interesting, We developed a logo which reflected this. The logo changes every hour so that if you visit the website at a certain time of day the logo will be slightly different. We wanted to explore the natural forms and landscape in Iceland, and the colours that the midnight sun creates, this naturally led to our experimentations with marbling which became the basis for our brand identity. We did a huge amount of experimentation for this brief including lazer cutting into acrylic to create our modern transparent festival passes.

CONTEXT BRIEF CSM : LAGOM
For the context brief we had to choose an item from the V&A museum, research its background and significance and then interpret its meaning and position today. We had to present this in the form of a poster.
I chose Swedish designer Marianne Westman's ceramic cheeseboard from her collection titled 'Picknick' as I recognised it from my family home. I became interested in the way that Scandinavians create beautiful but also purposeful objects. My research led me onto the concept of 'lagom' which is a Swedish word that roughly translates to having 'just enough' of something. I chose to present my poster with lots of white space mimicking clean Scandinavian design. I also cropped in on my own illustrations of Westman's print to create a more contemporary an abstract feel. My layout was also inspired by the Danish restaurant Noma's food presentation, sparse and scattered across the plate.
This catalog and collection of specimens documents the little un-noticed items and objects that I have noticed along the canal. Every day I cycle from Victoria Park to Kings Cross, I am often in a hurry to get to college so I never have time to properly look at the small details along my route. By revisiting the canal on foot and documenting my findings in the style of a scientific research project I have attempted to shed light on items that would normally have been overlooked and unnoticed. Taking reference from the nineteenth century in which the canal was finished, I have been inspired by the old fashioned apothecary’s and their use of labels to advertise their specimens.
